A mammoth team effort across the company mobilised our Diversity Bus and shuttle bus at Brighton & Hove Disability Pride and prompted some excellent community feedback.
We marched in the Pride parade behind the company banner and distributed more than 300 Helping Hand cards and lanyards, along with accessibility leaflets and large print bus times. We also offered free travel to companions of disabled concessionary card holders all day.
Colleagues working in customer service, accessibility, traffic control, 1 Stop Travel, control room, marketing and driving worked hard in the run-up to the event and on the day and their efforts were appreciated by people at Disability Pride.
Some of the compliments included:
“Thank you for wanting to make things better for me travelling.“
“I had no idea that you did so much for disabled people.“
“Great to see Brighton & Hove Buses here supporting Disability Pride.”
“Absolutely great initiatives and so many.“
“Didn’t know about taxi guarantee until today. I am going to start using the bus now.”
“I’ve seen huge changes in the way staff engage with disabled people.“
Disability Pride Chair Jenny Skelton thanked the company for supporting the event and for working in partnership with Pride and Community Transport.
“We couldn’t have done it without your support and the other charities and funders. All the Brighton & Hove staff were really helpful on the day and everyone worked really hard behind the scenes.”
Community Transport Operations Manager Lesley Shrieves said it was crucial that people with restricted mobility could access the right transport.
“The help Brighton & Hove Buses has given has been absolutely brilliant. They have got behind us completely and we couldn’t have done it without them.”
