Brighton & Hove Buses has achieved international accreditation for energy management, ISO 50001. This is no mean feat. The standard shines a spotlight on the amount of energy we use and how we use it and puts forward improvement plans showing how we’ll continue to reduce energy consumption.
It covers everything from fuel use and avoiding harsh braking and acceleration to turning off lights, air conditioning, heating and computers in the office at home time.
An ISO assessor visited our Conway St offices in Hove in September and was impressed with the energy saving going on.
The assessor’s report noted: “Staff (are) enthusiastic and engaged in the objective of improving energy performance. The majority of buses are Euro 5 or 6 standard.
“Operationally, maintenance and focus on mpg achieved supports drive for improved fuel efficiency. Over 7% increase in fuel efficiency year to date, as compared to previous year, attributed primarily to new buses and maintenance regime. Eco training of drivers, use of MIX software to monitor driving style and action taken on poor driver performance further promote fuel efficiency.”
