“We fund a dedicated full-time special constable to help our customers and to detect and deter crime in and around our services”
Travelling by bus is already the safest way to travel, but we never take that for granted. We invest in the highest standards of maintenance and safety of our vehicles. This includes our driving skills, which are monitored by independent experts from Driver Assessment Services.
We have our own training school delivering around 1100 training days per year, providing professional training for new staff as well as regular in-service courses.
The safety of other road users, especially cyclists, is a high priority. We hold an annual event called Exchanging Places that helps our drivers and cyclists to understand each other’s perspectives, share the road and manage the risks together.
Crime on our buses continues to fall, thanks to significant investment in CCTV cameras and recording – all our buses have CCTV inside and out, and driver radios – and our partnership with Sussex Police’s Rapid Response unit. We fund a dedicated full-time special constable to help our customers and to detect and deter crime in and around our services. This year we sponsored an additional police vehicle to support this work. We were finalists in the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport Annual Awards for Excellence 2014 Safety Category for our Police Liaison work.
