“Only one in five customers now pay on-bus, and we have increased the deals by mobile or smart cards to encourage this trend, which makes it quicker and easier to board, and improves punctuality”
The range of options, deals and discounts for customers is increasing, and digital options on smart cards and mobile phones mean customers can now choose the best ticket before they travel. This helps keep it simple on the bus, while at the same time providing more customer choice.
In 2014 we introduced new ticket options and froze prices on others, to give more customers the opportunity to pay for bus travel at discounted rates – with savings now ranging from 12% to more than 50% of the standard fares.
There are special discounted tickets for families, students, children and city centre travellers, as well as regular commuters. Young people (5-18s) can buy a 7-day Saver that gives them unlimited travel for £1 per day during the summer holidays. And our Family Saver Tickets allow 5 people (up to 2 adults and 3 children) a day’s travel for a total of £9.
Part-time workers and other occasional travellers can now get significant savings by buying multiple day tickets (Savers) in advance at reduced rates. A new multi-trip ticket is available on the key offering single journeys around the city centre in multiples of 10, 20 or 30 tickets.
Only one in five customers now pay on-bus, and we have increased the deals by mobile or smart cards to encourage this trend, which makes it quicker and easier to board, improves punctuality and means we can offer more ticket choices.
Our very popular mobile m-tickets (over half a million sold in the first few months) now include deals for two adults travelling together, and for students.
Passengers have quickly adapted to the latest ticket technology, encouraged by the ease and convenience of getting a ticket straight to their phone, as well as significant discounts compared to on-bus fares. The flexibility of mobile ticketing technology has also made it faster for us to respond to customer feedback.
We are now working on ‘multi-operator’ smart tickets that can be used on other bus companies’ services too.
